Glossary of technical terms and meanings related to Desktop PC's:

 

Operating System or O/S: This is in simple terms the main program that will run your Desktop PC whenever it is turned on, we will only review laptops & notebooks which already have the O/S installed so not much need to worry about this unless you are looking for a specific O/S.

 

PC Tower/Tower: A PC tower is the rectangle shaped box that contains all the components that make a PC run suck as processor, RAM memory, graphic cards, hard drives, DVD/CD drives and so on.

 

Graphic Card's: These are additional cards that slot into your motherboard (main board inside the tower) and supply your computer with additional memory solely dedicated to processing tasks related to graphics only and in turn improving overall performance.

 

 

RAM Memory - RAM memory is internal memory that stores processes in simple the more ram your Desktop PC has the faster it will perform tasks in general.

 

Hard Drive/Internal memory/HDD's - This is the memory where you will store all your files, folders, music, movies and anything else - The more hard drive/internal memory your Desktop PC has the more information/data you can save.

 

Built in WI-FI - Is a built in wireless connection for connecting to your wireless router at home/work (If you have one). There are also WI-FI spots in various locations such as McDonalds and others you can also use this feature to connect to these.

 

CPU/Processor - A processor is a unit within your Desktop PC that processes all tasks that you request from playing music, writing a letter on Microsoft Word or even just having a look around. CPU/Processor speeds need not confuse you basically its just a numbers game and the higher the better performance your unit will be able to offer.

 

ALL-IN-ONE PC's: These are state of the art desktop computers that integrate all the components from within the tower solely into the monitor creating a small, compact and easy to place desktop PC.

 

DVD/CD Rewriter: This is a built in drive that can burn/create DVD's/CD's from blank discs which can be brought from PC stores to major supermarkets.
